Getting Married

Sunday, January 04, 2009

Officially engaged as of Christmas Day 2008. Looking to have an October 2009 wedding which is great as my parents celebrate their 4oth wedding anniversary (ruby) on October 12 2009.

I have been very very busy and distracted and unmotivated this past month and my thesis writing has suffered big time! Tomorrow I will be back in the lab for a couple of days working with a colleague on some protein extractions (this will make up my final thesis chapter) and then back to hard core writing on Wednesday. I am still working on my first chapter and I was hoping to be half way through my second chapter at this point in time. My scholarship stipend also finished in December 31 so I am now living off and paying my mortgage with savings and income from my rental property. Its a bit scary doing this knowing also that a wedding is coming up! Ack! But things have a way of working out!

The one good thing about getting ready for a wedding is that its the catalyst I needed to get my dodgy acne/blemish prone skin sorted!

Oh and today is my birthday. I am 32. Woot!

Hiatus

I've been absent a while and I just popped in to tell those very few people who read my blog that writing my thesis must take precedence over blog writing for the next couple of months. Once I submit this beast of a book then I will do some catch up posts!

Dancing....Ballroom to be exact

Wednesday, September 17, 2008

Well H and I have been having ballroom dancing lessons for almost 2 years now. We go to a 45 minutes private class with our wonderful teacher Sherry and then out for a gorgeous feast of a dinner at our favourite restaurant every Thursday. So it is with great anticipation that each time the new Dancing With the Stars series starts we hunker down and watch each show and analyse each dance to see if they are doing the steps that we do! Its quite amusing really. We've become very good at being able to tell the good ones from the bad and our comments often match up with some of the judges!

So far we have mastered (mastered as in we can do this quite safely at a wedding if the music is right) the Jive (lots of fun), the Cuban Rumba (seriously sexy), the Cha Cha (I get to legitimately wiggle my hips on this one WOOT!) and the Waltz (who would have thought that three measly steps could be so hard?). We are doing a little Samba at the moment but I don't really enjoy it that much. I really want to move on to ballroom Salsa and Tango.

I think the 'celebrities' who go on to the show are super brave and do a fantastic job! Most of them make it look easy and I can tell you now it definitely isn't! My favourite performer so far in all of the series previous winner Kate Ceberano. She totally rocked!

This year it looks like Toni Pearen might be a favourite. This girl can dance!

The boxer Danny Green is sensational too as is footballer Paul Licuria. I think a lot of their success is that their chosen sports of Boxing and Football require a lot of balance, accurate footwork and an element of grace. I think that may be a reason why in this season as in seasons past the swimmers don't do so great at the dancing.

Another point to note is that I think Sonia Kruger is simply luminous!!! She is downright gorgeous, wears awesome frocks and has some of the funniest one-liners I have ever heard! The lady is sassy, smart and funny!

So take it from a curvy girl who likes to dress up, that ballroom dancing is one of the most fun ways I have ever found of doing something active and where having a bit of a booty can be a good thing....especially in those latin dances!!!

Leather Jacket and My Weekend!

I picked up my altered leather jacket a couple of weeks ago. I had the sleeves shortened to sit just above my wrist. They are a smidge too short but I don't really care because the jacket is now wearable and looks so much better than when the sleeves reached past my fingers! I also got my new skinny/slim/straight leg jeans altered at the waist to stop gaping so I can wear them without a belt. I must say I find jeans very difficult to find that fit, look good and feel comfortable.
On Saturday I went to a good friend's hens night. we started out at a Mexican restaurant and drank fish bowl margeritas! The along the way we were at a gay club that had a pole in the middle of the dancefloor. I tried to put my pole dance lessons from earlier this year to good use but wearing heels and jeans does not lend itself to gripping the pole very well. At least I gave it a shot :) One guy wearing his "Gay is the New Black" tee put me to shame with a great pole routine! All up it was a fun night and most importantly no hangover the next day!

I wore my new skinny/slim leg jeans from Sportsgirl. White babydoll top with black lace detail from god knows where, my Nine West Heechs and a black tuxedo blazer from Bardot. This top is great to wear when I go out to dinner and I know I'm going to eat lots - i.e Mexican Fajitas and Margeritas - definitely hides any bloat!

My pole dancing. I'm good aren't I?

The guy who was even better - he had rubber soled shoes on so he had an advantage over me!

The Cadbury Gorilla

Friday, September 05, 2008

Miss Karen (her blog is here) reminded me of the Cabdury Gorilla ad and I just had to post it here, especially now that I have worked out how to embed YouTube videos in my blog :)

Not only is the gorilla hilarious but they have used my favourite Phil Collins song which has a great short drum solo. What more could you ask for? Primates, good music and chocolate? Enjoy...

Updates

Monday, September 01, 2008

My eye infection started to get better after only one day of drops. By day 4 it was back to normal and contact went back in on Day 5. I'm glad that is over now.

I just went to the iTunes store and downloaded Phil Collins Hits and The Essential Michael Jackson. Totally cool albums! I'm listening to Rock With You right now :).

My leather jacket arrived from the UK and it is a beautiful soft great quality leather. The jacket fits like a glove except for the sleeves! The reach down past my finger tips. Now I don't have the longest arms but in general most jackets hit somewhere between my wrist bone and just before the ends of my fingers. The sleeves on this jacket I have concluded, are abnormally long and they have a zipper which adds a degree of difficulty to having them shortened. I'm glad to say that there is a guy here in Hobart who is just a gun at altering and fixing leather gear. I took the jacket into him on Saturday and we decided that if he shortens the sleeves and takes the zippers out completely the sleeves will hit at my wrist bones. It will only cost $35 too!! I'm picking it up in a week. I hope he does a good job!

And just beacuse I can here are a couple of vids. My two favourite Michael Jackson/Jacksons songs. Probably two of the best songs ever produced. Off the Wall and Can you Feel it. Enjoy :)

Would I be revealing my age if I say I remember when Can you Feel it came out? I'm sure I first saw/heard it on Countdown! Hahahaha....

my dad's birthday today!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

we went to dinner at my parent's place on Sunday so I could give my dad a present for his birthday. I wore my new tenant booties and they are great!

I currently have an eye infection. I can't wear my contacts and the antibiotic drops I have to use taste really mucky and yucky at the back of my throat...ugh! Add to that the beautiful blood-shot eye I'm carrying!

I went to a new physiotherapist today about my ITB and knee problems. Well she didn't tell me much that I didn't already suspect.

I am very tight in the ITB, quad, hammy, calf, anterial tibialis areas of the left leg. My left knee cap is also tight in as far as there is more movement in the right patella. The ITB especially pulls my leg out of alignment, the anterior tibialis causes me to pronate more than usual and all contribute to making that left knee not track right. The underlying problem is hip stability and that my glutes are firing momentarily AFTER my hammys. Yup probably should have addressed that about 7 years ago when I was first told it...anyway!

I have heaps of stretching and a couple hip strengthening exercises to do, a remedial massage next week and then go back to the physio in 2 weeks. I can keep doing my bootcamp but I need to back the intensity off a little in the sprint work etc. Now lets just work on me remembering to do everything, eyedrops, stretches, exercises oh and writing a phd thesis in there somewhere too :).
