my dad's birthday today!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

we went to dinner at my parent's place on Sunday so I could give my dad a present for his birthday. I wore my new tenant booties and they are great!

I currently have an eye infection. I can't wear my contacts and the antibiotic drops I have to use taste really mucky and yucky at the back of my throat...ugh! Add to that the beautiful blood-shot eye I'm carrying!

I went to a new physiotherapist today about my ITB and knee problems. Well she didn't tell me much that I didn't already suspect.

I am very tight in the ITB, quad, hammy, calf, anterial tibialis areas of the left leg. My left knee cap is also tight in as far as there is more movement in the right patella. The ITB especially pulls my leg out of alignment, the anterior tibialis causes me to pronate more than usual and all contribute to making that left knee not track right. The underlying problem is hip stability and that my glutes are firing momentarily AFTER my hammys. Yup probably should have addressed that about 7 years ago when I was first told it...anyway!

I have heaps of stretching and a couple hip strengthening exercises to do, a remedial massage next week and then go back to the physio in 2 weeks. I can keep doing my bootcamp but I need to back the intensity off a little in the sprint work etc. Now lets just work on me remembering to do everything, eyedrops, stretches, exercises oh and writing a phd thesis in there somewhere too :).

They arrived!

Friday, August 15, 2008

My Nine West Tenant Booties arrived from the USA yesterday. The whole thing was a bit of a drama but I am glad they are here.

Originally, way back in June I noticed the booties on sale in Australia on the Nine West site for $100. I was undecided so I didn't buy them. Later in mid-July I noticed they were further reduced to $89 or was it $79? In any case they were sold out Australia wide! We don't have a Nine West store in Tasmania so purchasing online was the only option. I hadn't seen nice shoe boots anywhere else in
town. I considered getting some similar ones from ASOS.com but was unsure of the quality of ASOS shoes fater reading up on them on the Vogue forums. I couldn't find my size on eBay either. I resigned myself to missing out on the booties. Then for some reason I typed in Tenant for a Google search and lo and behold Amazon.com had them, in my size, for USD$34.95 and free delivery across the USA (Amazon doesn't ship to Australia). Woot! I bought them and forwarded them to Aaron from the now defunct BoxVoyage forwarding service. Aaron closed down his business the day after I bought the shoes on July 23. Phew... The postage ended up costing more than the shoes but all up the cost of the shoes and the postage once converted to AUD cost exactly what I would have paid for the shoes on sale if I had walked into a Nine West store and tried them on.

They fit like a glove and look so cute! Can't wait to wear them somewhere...anywhere! But the weather is awful at the moment. Very wet and cold. The booties are satin covered so there is no way I am wearing them outside until they get at least 3 coats of Scotchguard on them :)

Here they are...

Leather jacket, sultanas and ITB

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

I have been wanting to buy an edgy leather jacket this winter but not the classical biker jacket that seems to be in vogue at the moment. I still wanted edgy rock chick but with some uniqueness as well. I stumbled across the Kate Moss for Top Shop asymmetrical leather jacket on UK eBay. I bought it and hope it will fit nicely.

I'm also rather excited by the Sunbeam Sultanas Mini packets I found at the supermarket. Just 15 gram serves - perfect for morning tea! I just had a packet and a banana with my green tea. I'm excited because I really like sultanas but the other lunchbox size packets are just too big and I end up eating the whole lot which I don't want to do :) Its a psychological thing trust me...How cute are the packets?

My most frustrating experience during the past week is suspecting that my intense knee, thigh and calf pain from last week is most likely Illiotibial Band Syndrome (ITBS) which is a major bitch when you run. why? Because you can't or at least shouldn't run while you rehab it. Pete the massage therapist from Bootcamp had a look at it on Saturday for me and said ITBS is the most likely scenario. I have since read up on it and I think he is correct. He only worked on my left leg for about 5 minutes but I haven't had any of that intense pain since! I still have some stiffness around the knee and where the ITB attached on the shin and also some patella pain (Runner's Knee most likely). This afternoon I have a remedial massage booked and my therapist Emma is brilliant at fixing me up. Tomorrow morning I have a physio appointment booked to hopefully identify what muscle imbalance is the likely cause and what strengthening exercises I will need to work on. Its been one week since I last went for a run and another 6 days before Bootcamp starts again so hopefully I will be back on track with working out next week.

Finally its cold. Very very very cold. Snow to sea level last night and a bitter bitter Antarctic chill in the air today. There was even a tiny bit of snow on my lawn this morning when I took the garbage out. Brrrrr................

Today I'm wearing woollen hiking socks (I get cold feet), puma street trainers, levis, TWO damart thermals (singlet and a long sleeve), long sleeve cotton tee, woollen cardi and a scarfe. I pop my down jacket and polarfleece gloves on when I go outside. Not the best look but I'm snug as a bug in a rug ;)

And yesterday I received my new Wendy Mullin Sew U Home Stretch Book. I read it cover to cover last night and I think I may have to venture out on Saturday and buy some knit fabric to make a tee. Oh and also get my overlocker/serger off my mum.

D from the blog Delightful posted about Melanie Huynh, assistant stylist at Vogue Paris and her impeccable style. Rather than repeat what D said I will simply let you read and look for yourself here. I could not have put it better myself.

A crafty colourful post

Its been a while since I posted anything crafty. I ventured over to Heather Bailey's blog today. Its been a while since I last visited but as always I am amazed at her use of colour and the beautiful photography! I was also delighted to see this free pattern download for cute little pin cushion. I currently use a tin to keep my pins in and they often end up on the floor when I knock it over so I think I need to use up some of my scraps and make the pin cushion thus...

Heather officially opens her new online store today, August 12. Visit the store here. This is very very bad for me because as mentioned in a previous blog post I have a terrible fabric fetish. Good think I haven't got any spending money right now or else I would be in major trouble!

I really adore this fabric and the bag is pretty cute too. I think this fabric is part of Heather's new Pop Garden range. I'm glad she has a new range out because I was alittle sick of the Freshcut collection. They are all available at the store.

And last but not least (especially now that my hair is growing back after the big chop at Christmas time) are Heather's Trash Ties. They look very cool. The quote on the page that made me giggle was "The coolest new hair thingies". They are indeed thingies. I'm not sure yet whether the pictures are just clever marketing spin or whether these 'thingies' will actually do what the pictures show especially for my thick heavy locks that haute doing anything but hanging there. I suppose the only way to find out is to buy some eh? Hmmmm... They come in two sizes; standard and long and instructions are here.

Possibly something I could do with my current hair length

I think this 'do is very cute

New Shoes and my Brother's Birthday

Monday, August 04, 2008

Yesterday was my brother's 38th birthday. We had dinner at my parent's house and ate chocolate cake (I scored the leftovers weeeee!). We managed to take one nice shot of him and his sons and then another for fun...On the previous evening (Saturday) I headed out with a girlfriend for a drink and a bite to eat and I had to wear my new NineWest Heech wedges. They are very high and a pair of party feet wouldn't go astray but the leather is so soft that the straps didn't rub at all and that was what I was most worried about. As predicted H did not like them. Meh...whatever. Oh and here is the first time I have ever posted my outfits...not sure I like it but it will do for now. As per usual I am in my customary black. I painted my toes pink for the evening.

Wearing footless tights from Myer, Heech wedges, Sass and Bide knit skirt, Cotton On long sleeve top, Kookai tank and Country Road long line cardigan. Necklace from Elk Designs.
